The I Ching is probably one of the most ancient and most highly developed oracles and divination techniques. Jung was quick to study it and compare it in various ways with what he later called “synchronicity,” using it as a technique for understanding the exact “vibrational essence” of the moment.
The I Ching describes “movement/change” through 64 hexagrams, and it can provide well-developed descriptions of the nature of our current inner psychological state and also of the actions that must then be carried out in response.
It is easy to immediately see just how useful it can be to combine astrology with this sort of divination technique, in terms of how much they may complement each other.
For example, this is because one of the main problems with astrology is in fact its very nature, in that it is a way of studying of “the macroscopic,” making it possible to study cycles on a planetary or even galactic scale, but even at its best it is just barely capable of precisely refining analyses to the hour or smaller increments (with lunar cycles); an I Ching reading (like any divination technique) makes the exact opposite possible by revealing “the immediate present,” at that very instant in time, almost as though observing the “energetic happenstance” of the moment gave us a “snapshot” of the vibrations activated by the forces of the present.
Here, I wanted to develop a system of drawing from the I Ching in a perfectly random way, but also using an astrological approach to allow these techniques to be combined and see what an I Ching draw can give us in terms of information that can be linked to astrology: which elemental energies, signs, planets, and houses are highlighted, what the symbolism of the hexagram itself is, and which planetary cycles it may lead us to.
I offer up my own interpretations here (and I have tried to keep them as simple and concise as possible), as well as what I sense intuitively with each hexagram in light of my astrological knowledge, but the very principle of this technique is that you do the same!
