Here, we are talking about the overall energies when the axis of the lunar nodes lies in Aries/Libra or in the 1st/7th houses, which absolutely need to be nuanced based on your birth chart and its various karmic factors; see also the article on the general interpretation of the Lunar nodes.
They represent a karmic axis of the highest importance, linked directly to your triangle of incarnation, and they symbolize both the innate, fundamental parts of yourself that you have mastered (the south node in the 1st House / Aries) and the pathway of your development during this incarnation (the north node in the 7th House / Libra).
They stay in each axis of signs for about one and a half years, which is what gives them their more general, “generational” archetypal colors; their positions in houses are more meaningful in terms of giving depth to your personality, and this is what should be analyzed as a matter of priority, while the analysis of signs will clarify their mode of action.
Opening up of the Self to Others
The axis of the south node in Aries / the north node in Libra or of the south node in the 1st house / the north node in the 7th house is the axis of Individuation; it requires that we move on to a less individualistic and egocentric vision of things and to a more shared, social reality, where conversation and relationships with “others” take on greater importance, and opening up to an affective connection is both central and sensitive in this context.
The foundations of the south node are very much centered around the ego and the personality here, so they are very independent and highly capable of self-assertion, initiative, and daring.
Martian energies in particular should be analyzed in this context, since Mars, as the karmic ruler of this node, may give important indications about the fundamentals of these people’s individuality, depending on whether this planet is dignified or not and in tension or not, as well as on the aspects that it forms or finds itself in as a result of transits and progressions: this will always tend to have a powerful karmic impact on these people’s innate foundations, such as their fundamental self-realization, for better or worse.
This south node may be a very powerful, deep-seated basic foundation, giving these people a personality that is already highly “effective” as is (self-sufficient), such that they therefore have more trouble picking up on the evolution that is necessary for them and the ways in which they need to open up to others, which may be seen as hard risks to take, especially if their Martian forces are strong of course.
These people may have much difficulty pulling themselves out of these patterns, trusting others, managing to understand others, or even starting a conversation, taking external opinions, desires, and needs into account, and acting in any way other than by “imposing themselves.” This is an important step, which again is not simple, especially if the south node is expressed in a useful, harmonious way: why change something that works so well and that is, for that matter, also much more often valued by the rules of our current society, which more directly rewards strength and individual success (at the expense of true social cooperation)?
All socialization will be an important thing to work on during this incarnation, i.e., demonstrating more empathy and also not being afraid of cultivating all different sorts of relationships, because the various projections coming from other people, on a both general and affective level, will contribute hugely to shifting the innate, stable Martian boundaries and foundations, giving a glimpse of other possible realities, and also creating an understanding of the complementary axes between individuals that may sometime emerge.
There is very much a notion of a “balance” that needs to be found between, on the one hand, the fear of getting involved, becoming too dependent, and having one’s life depend too much on external forces (which is inevitably extremely unsettling and unstable), and on the other hand being able to “delegate” and also understand the use of a union with another person, which leads to more strengths for both sides in the end.
It is of course important to find the “right people” and surround yourself with good people, so that you can cultivate good energies and avoid excessive extremes, such as total solitude, not trusting anyone, and becoming completely paralyzed in the current state of your personality, without any openness, which in the end would not lead to much evolution for this incarnation.
One thing that may be important for people with this positioning is that other people may actually allow them to express this extra strength: it does not exist just to respond to a mindset of confrontation, fighting, struggle (over power or domination), or leeching off of others, but may also be expressed in terms of cooperation, mutual aid, getting assistance, loving each other, and sharing. It’s really the entirety of the symbolic passage from Mars to Venus that has to be dealt with here, thus the movement from fire to air in terms of elemental energies, with all of the antagonism that this may cause! But basically, if you want to seduce these people, you should directly prove your strengths and complementary traits to them.
The Martian forces of action, volition, and the realization of solar principles need to learn to develop a Venusian way of being, one which involves seduction, conciliation, mediation, and negotiation, in order to get what they want.
Domination and self-confidence are not expressed here through direct, active force, but instead through passive, magnetic qualities that also need to teach these people to be able to receive, have an influence, accept things, and sometimes even give up.
The planet Venus is thus also important to analyze, since, as the karmic ruler of the north node, it clarifies in a way how this act of opening up socially happens: under what conditions might the forces of love and magnetism take a seat and harmonize with the rest of the birth chart?
Obviously, depending also on which other planets are in close proximity to the lunar nodes, this may bring important nuances to the expression of these forces, and as this directly affects the axis of the personality and Individuation, this may be particularly noticeable in relation to these people’s overall karmic evolution and the structure of their individuality.
It will be important for these people to listen well to the forces and feelings inside of them, as these may dictate the evolution that is necessary for them, both in terms of that which they should keep from their current personality and which has helped them succeed so far, and in terms of what they should be capable of changing for their own overall good, based on what “others” may have been able to do better and understand better than they have, so that they may refine their own qualities.
It should also be noted that this axis has a possible sublimation attached to it in terms of opening up to some other who is more absolute and transcendent; this “other” would thus no longer be perceived as just part of a simple interpersonal relationship, but as something much vaster that describes the marriage of the personal with the collective (depending in particular on the expression of the transpersonal planets, this may in any case be a helpful form of mediation for one’s overall socialization).
