Here, we are talking about the overall energies when the axis of the lunar nodes lies in Libra/Aries or in the 7th/1st houses, which absolutely need to be nuanced based on your birth chart and its various karmic factors; see also the article on the general interpretation of the Lunar nodes.
They represent a karmic axis of the highest importance, linked directly to your triangle of incarnation, and they symbolize both the innate, fundamental parts of yourself that you have mastered (the south node in the 7th House / Libra) and the pathway of your development during this incarnation (the north node in the 1st House / Aries).
They stay in each axis of signs for about one and a half years, which is what gives them their more general, “generational” archetypal colors; their positions in houses are more meaningful in terms of giving depth to your personality, and this is what should be analyzed as a matter of priority, while the analysis of signs will clarify their mode of action.
Working on Trust
The axis of the south node in Libra / the north node in Aries or of the south node in the 7th house / the north node in the 1st house is the axis of Individuation, and here it highlights the need to move from a perspective that very much values “others,” socialization, and connection (particularly with a romantic partner) to a perspective that is more egocentric and more conducive to self-assertion, combativeness, and initiative.
These fundamentals of the south node may cause many things to depend on the outside world, and others may hold many of the keys to the personality of the people with this positioning; these people may for that matter be somewhat dependent on these others, which would translate into a lack of self-confidence and a tendency to always put themselves down while comparing themselves to various mirror-image “alter egos” whom they may cross paths with and whom they readily judge to be “better than they are,” and this karmic axis is inevitably an indication of some emancipation that should be carried out in relation to all of this.
It is necessary for these people to find the happy medium between, on the one hand, relying too much on external perspectives and acting based on this because of and for other people (at the risk of rejecting themselves) and, on the other hand, getting in contact with the fierceness that is necessary to assert themselves, take action, and manage to refuse to be passive and always yield to external rules or desires, so as to set up their own game/”self.”
The good thing is that these foundations can very much ease the “social,” interpersonal aspect of things; these people more directly exhibit empathy and qualities related to conciliation, mediation, and negotiation, and of course this can translate into significant assets in the social theater of daily life (facilitating integration in various instances)!
On the other hand, the consequence is that Libra is often a highly “polymorphous” archetype, somewhat like a social chameleon. These people “absorb” and reproduce much of what exists in their environment, and even if this constitutes a good quality in some ways, it is also something that gives them a harder time defining and structuring their own ego: they are often “caught in the middle,” in a situation where they have a hard time separating what is really coming from them from what they are doing through some degree of mimicry, which they also have to learn to expunge over time in order to refine their own individuality.
Quite often, with these lunar nodes, there is a distinctive karmic charge tied to various forces that are either Venusian or Martian (or both!), and it is therefore very important to search thoroughly and perform a deep analysis around these two major karmic rulers, as they will clarify the nature of the complexes and/or the polarization at work in this incarnation!
=> Clearly, if this concerns Venus’s energies, then these people’s inner foundations will be impacted, such that they may “retain” certain fears or wounds that have crystalized, often in connection with fears of rejection or difficulties with either attachment or “losing” others.
In any case, a highly significant “crisis of values” may take shape with regard to this, and this crisis will require that these people manage, over the course of their incarnation, to resituate themselves, reassess their worth, and better understand their intrinsic value, which should not necessarily be based on any sort of “rewards” that others give them, or on the abjuration and sacrifice of their own personality, for that matter!
In fact, it is very likely that during this incarnation there will be one or more karmic relationships that will emphasize these different elements and consequently require that these people change things accordingly.
For this purpose, it will be important in each relationship to monitor the various exchanges that are taking place in Synastry, as this may make it easier to determine what each relationship is activating, what it may force these people to work on, and what its goal, meaning, function, etc. is.
=> On the other hand, we have Mars’s forces, which impact the axis of fundamental development; they represent the “goal that needs to be achieved” and therefore require that we not wallow in a secondary, passive role in which we are subordinate to others (waiting for crumbs from their table given at their discretion) but instead find our own place in this whole situation, even if this means flirting with our aggressive, violent, confrontational side.
Often, Martian strengths as well as weaknesses are expressed here most notably in terms of projections: people with this positioning are subjected to others’ fire, dominated, assaulted, and belittled, but this also occurs for the purpose of better understanding how these very planetary energies actually function.
It is also frequent for Martian energies in a birth chart to have a very distinctive “karmic charge,” which may clarify the nature of the poor track record that may be attached to this planetary function: we may sometimes say either that this was too centered around an “abuse” of these forces or that these forces are for various reasons again connected to fears and scars in terms of how they are expressed, and there is therefore an “imbalance,” with a need to compensate in this life in the present.
And often, these mechanisms of introversion are simply connected with lines of reasoning that are based on protection: these people put themselves behind others so that they do not have to face their own responsibilities, their own limits or failures, or their problems and complexes, thinking that these things can thus be “socially diluted,” or that other people will serve as a shield or a lightning rod just in case, if needed (somewhat like a surrogate parent, for that matter).
But inevitably, this is fundamentally a miscalculation in the long term and is never harmless, because it hands the “power” over to others on a silver platter. Thus, this north node in Aries or in the 1st house requires that people rediscover all of the forces of fire, that is, it requires that they get back in touch with the spark of action and the principle of volition, which then allow them to use all of the various other planetary functions, fulfill their desires, and thus in the end express their full personality and power!
We cannon recklessly put Martian energies in a cage, since otherwise we run the risk of being compulsive and then encountering this in anxiety or in psychosomatic, psychological, or nervous problems: Mars eats away at itself, holds itself inside, and is also likely to become aggressive in its forms of planetary expression and bring us face to face with violence (including violence we are subjected to), like a time bomb.
These lunar nodes are thus ultimately very much an indication of a process of emancipation and personal development, as well as the need to manage, as the Buddhists said, to “make friends with ourselves” and to find the path of fulfillment that will allow for “detachment” from external views and for us to get in touch with a benevolent inner perspective.
Uranian energies may of course help quite a bit with this evolutive pathway, just like how it will be very, very important for people with this positioning to be able to surround themselves with the “right people,” which would allow for the “right projections” to promote evolution as much as possible and also avoid wasting time with pointless bad habits. Although, this may be difficult to spot ahead of time—see my article, “Understanding the nature of our relationships,” to understand the difference between structural and temporal relationships in how they are expressed.
When understood in this way, “others” can become springboards for evolution and supports that provide examples to be followed, yield ideas, energy, and understanding, and bring forth and reveal good qualities, all of which are things that may surface quite powerfully!
The key word for development with this axis of nodes may really be “trust,” as this word often comes back around, no matter which end we approach the forces of this axis from, for that matter.
