There are different psychological patterns that come up more or less often when analyzing birth charts, but if there are some that come up most frequently through all the studies I’ve been able to do, it’s certainly those involving a duality of security and freedom at different levels…
It’s also interesting because it’s certainly part of much deeper generational and social phenomena, this duality is more intrinsically part of “modern man”, probably more than it was part of the charts of our grandparents or great-grandparents, certainly on the whole, less educated and more preoccupied with “immediate survival”…
In our modern era, we feel that Mankind probably going through a phase of its evolution (perhaps related to the passage in the age of Aquarius ?) where we are more and more pushed to emancipate ourselves, to seek our freedom, independence, autonomy, to look for a life which goes beyond the primary needs to reach a realization of Self, to realize our Individuation.
However, this does not necessarily occur without taking risks (personal, social, material), which necessarily results in terms of “tensions” in the birth chart, through different quadratures or antagonisms based on these points…
There are several archetypical forms that these tensions can take, I could not quote them all here, but perhaps the most emblematic will be to have on one side powerful Uranian aspirations (air, transpersonal) and on the other side Earth forces, Saturn, Taurus, who want concreteness and, especially, security !
Typically, the Earth forces want to “ensure the beefsteak in the plate” and the roof over the head ! They want to pay the bills, finance the loan of the car, insure the studies of the youngest child, many very practical, pragmatic, daily things, praiseworthy in themselves, but which also frequently work as a bridle, not to say sometimes even a cage, a prison, especially if, on the other hand, transpersonal forces work in the background and make other “realities” (which we also find in the duality of “matter and spirit” cousin of this one), other aspirations or intuitions, the whole opening the door to different repressions and frustrations…
The transit phase of Uranus opposition to the birth position around the age of 40-42 can be very violent and powerful for this purpose in this kind of scheme, it produces a revealing crisis that comes to bear on this duality and forces, sometimes willingly or forcibly, to go outside the comfort zone, often through “losses” (more in a material sense, often with “financial insecurity” for example), which come to force detachment, renunciation, letting go, and thus allowing a refocusing on deep spiritual, social, metaphysical aspirations…
Note that in rarer cases, this duality may also act in the opposite direction, making a “risk-taker” personality, a “spendthrift” as we say, into a personality that has to take into account differently the elements of management, to better secure one’s environment, relatives, etc.
It’s important in this kind of duality not to polarize it, believing that one side would always be necessarily “good” while the other would also always be “bad”, in reality there are as many “security and freedom” dualities as there are birth charts ! Each one has to live their own energies and to find resolutions to their own energy tensions, without any particular preconceived ideas…
It’s really on these tensions that we must work to find the best possible “resolution” for them…
In some cases, this will be done, for example, through the mediation of other natal, emotional, passionate, or intellectual energies, which will allow us to live the “security and freedom” patterns in different ways over time, with the maturity of age helping.
In other cases, the native will necessarily have to undergo relational Projections and often through the affective partner to unblock these energies (including through ruptures or falling madly in love, which destabilize the routine and force risk-taking).
Often whatever it is, it will be necessary to rely on the various actualizations in Progressions as well as in Transits to know which lever is activated and at what moment, to accompany as consciously as possible the evolution that this duality requires, whether it’s in one direction or another…
It would be interesting that possibly an astrologer in 100 years time will come back to this article and will be able to follow it up, to see if according to the studies he himself carries out, he finds an evolution of this kind of “security and freedom” patterns, still as numerous or not in the population, and in which direction… 😉
We like to believe that man always goes and will always go in a direction of emancipation, but in reality it’s far from being so simple, especially at the collective level, and many things can force us to refocus on our primary needs as a society…
