In our modern society, we have to recognize that the solar aspect of existence has taken up an extremely large amount of space, much to the detriment of the lunar aspect, and this is obviously a duality that is very central to humanity, where there is reason to ask questions.
Thus for example, we highly value social, material achievement, celebrity, or even brute force to impose oneself (Sun / Fire), to the detriment of the internal personal emotional feeling (Moon / Water) which is more assimilated at best to a waste of time or at worst to weakness, and in doing so, we obviously cut ourselves off from an important part of reality !
We can also see that this lunar aspect is often either overused, or completely distorted or twisted in its expressions, as modern society tends a lot to “reverse the values” !
This lunar influence can be found, for example, in a permanent “psychologization” of the public field (including through politics, which enormously “infantilizes” the people, the french astrologer Hades directly attributed democracy to the Moon, as opposed to the royalism of the Sun, of course), or in an emotional media indecency, where, to put it bluntly, reality TV shows are made which do a lot of “pathos”, in order to bring tears to the public at little cost…
Examples of this kind are not lacking unfortunately, and each time it’s a “false expression” of the Anima which necessarily can only give a “false answer” of the Animus (since these 2 principles are inseparable and communicate continuously with each other).
In his book “The Way of the Self, the Lights and the Planets” (very interesting french book of humanistic astrology), Eric Berrut evokes the tendencies of a dominant Moon and the consequences that this has for the expression of the Sun, with obviously different repercussions according to a feminine or masculine nativity, according to the different expression Animus / Anima.
There are 4 main points :
- Privilege all bonds of belonging, starting with those of the family, to the detriment of one’s own sovereignty and individual destiny.
- Be in one’s maternal generosity, one’s nature of tenderness and sensitivity, at the risk of infantilizing others and existing through those one mothers.
- To be within one’s personal limits, in one’s human vulnerability, at the risk of identifying with the fragile child who seeks the protection of those around him.
- To live the incarnated dimension of existence, at the risk of getting lost in it, to live the psychic dimension of existence, at the risk of sinking into it.
If you recognize yourself in these 4 lines, then it’s very likely that you have a dominant Moon in your birth chart (or a Cancer / 4th House recurrence obviously), or that your natal Moon is directly actualized by your current Progressions or Transits. And it’s also very likely that you have trouble adapting to the current world ! given the solar dominant that I mentioned at the very beginning…
As Eric Berrut also says very well just a few lines below :
“In the longer term, the unilateral power of the Sun must be questioned and the realization of the “conjunctio” (notion of alchemy) passes, for Mankind, by a rehabilitation of the Moon.”
And this is probably a central point in the evolution of humanity today, which must find a balance, during the coming great Age of Aquarius (see precession of the equinoxes), between the worship of the Mother Goddess and the worship of God the Father, which have succeeded one another in the last millennia.
I’m the first to confess, that as a man “of my time”, I’ve hardly listened to my Moon in my life, and for good reason, not much in my birth chart pushes me there, on the contrary…
And even if I’m not the worst from this point of view, I’m aware of a really huge work to do on this path ! (very karmic for me) And I also admit that I have difficulty to define concretely the goal to reach, I think that it’s a really generational work, whose cycles will probably be counted in centuries…
The question is not to tend towards androgyny but simply to better understand and express more precisely what is the Anima and the Animus, the Moon, the Sun, without excess and without denial, which is important, but difficult !
It will probably go through the mediation of different transpersonal energies, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus (as it’s for example my personal case, since I go through the mediation of the Neptunian energies to express my global Water, more than lunar).
It goes without saying that in this work, the pelational Projections that can be made on “the other one” are extremely important ! (in particular on the emotional level obviously)
One should not believe that this is an exclusively male work ! Since women also have to embody “a collective Anima image”, in the centuries to come, which is “inspiring” to guide man in his evolution…
