The Black Moon in the 4th house or Cancer in birth chart

These are global energies of the Black moon in Cancer or in the 4th House which must be nuanced according to your birth chart, see the article Black Moon in birth chart; see also the article on the general interpretation of the Black moon.
It represents an important karmic factor, at the same time a seed of incarnation (see the Triangle of incarnation), a source of attractions, compulsions, and also of fears, introversions.
The black moon is one of the attributes of the Anima in the chart, and as such it can indicate a Projection of the latter…
As the black moon remains 273 days per sign, its position in the houses is more telling for the personality, the archetypal color of the sign modulates according to it. Consequently, focus on the house impacted in the interpretation, the analysis of the sign must be subordinated to it.

Compensation in relation to emotional security

The black moon in the 4th house or in Cancer is directly connected with emotional energies, which may be maternal and familial, and it may bring out fears or some degree of violence here; these domains require various forms of sublimation in life, in particular in relation to the family that people with this positioning may create for themselves, as well as in terms of the familial and ancestral karma that they may have to “pay off” in a way.

This is still a rather complicated placement for the black moon, because this is known to be a sector of security, stability, and really anything that leads to “emotional reassurance,” and this karmic factor, which brings to mind the Jungian shadow, brings forth fears and attraction/repulsion, which can easily be related to family, roots, people’s maternal side, childhood, and unconscious psychological forces.

The black moon clearly adds violence to the sensitive, receptive lunar forces here, and this may tend to “dry them out,” somewhat like we may find to be the case with Saturn in the 4th house or in Cancer for example (some astrologers understandably designate this sector to be the black moon’s exile in terms of Traditional astrological rulerships).

The parental or familial situation may thus need to be analyzed more closely, perhaps more so on the mother’s side of course but not exclusively so; for example, this may occur through a deficiency, or really anything that may activate feelings of insecurity, fears of abandonment, rejection, harshness, or callousness, and thus a need to sublimate all of this over the course of one’s incarnation, go beyond these original limitations, and even manage to “purge” some of these elements over the course of one’s incarnation.

In this way this black moon may for example be very similar to Pluto in the 4th house or in Cancer: it may be a vehicle for forces of domination, manipulation, jealousy, and possessiveness, and this may be a pattern that is expressed in particular in the relationship between these people’s parents. It may also be found in various forms of disapproval or distrust, which may then of course also easily be transposed through interpersonal and affective projections involving the Anima and the Animus.

What may be rather difficult is the notion of passiveness that this may lead to, with the feeling that these people are very much “putting up with” others (including “ancestrally” and familially) and that part of the parental pattern is thus repeated in turn, even unconsciously, in these people’s own affective relationships and with the family that they have formed themselves.

Sometimes adopting diametrically opposing views will also be a possible or even an advisable/imperative solution so that these people can get out of their passiveness, take a step back, and find a family/personal structure that helps them evolve, that is more favorable and healthy, and that is less violent and conditioned.

In some cases, this may in fact force these people to reach maturity very young—too young—by putting them face to face early on with things, choices, and responsibilities that may be too heavy to carry (this may also for example be due to being torn between their parents) and that may thus represent more of a crippling weight than something that provides structure and helps them shape their personality.

It may be important to analyze the Saturnian forces in these people’s birth charts, that is, the way in which these forces express themselves and what they affect, because this positioning of the black moon tends to reinforce these forces: it represents a true “bypass” and compensation for emotional forces, for example by often leading these people to get more directly invested in the social and professional sphere (allowing for a sort of outlet).

It may be more difficult for people with this positioning to “establish ties,” including for example when it comes to finding a house, a place where they feel right at home, or a country or a region that they may identify with and in which they can take pleasure in their personal development; or on the contrary, there may be particular things that need to be proved or compensated for related to these things, for example if these people feel uprooted, if they migrate, etc. This is also part of the overall work that needs to be done involving these people’s lunar energies.

Studying transgenerational aspects and astrogeneology may allow these people to purge the karmic sides of themselves that are linked to their ancestors, their roots, and past incarnations and in the best-case scenario to make peace with painful patterns through a better understanding of familial planetary energies. Incidentally, Neptunian forces may also be important on this level, as they may for example help with the notions of forgiveness and acceptance and thus in the end may lead to some degree of emotional and karmic “resilience.”

And the good thing is that this positioning of the black moon may actually favor resilient aspects; it may create much internal strength, like a form of galvanization that gives people armor, preparing them for various trials and allowing them to move on to a higher stage of expression and great emotional sublimation.

Much will depend on what these people perpetuate in turn. Sometimes, a separation from familial patterns will require that they “refrain from having children” and starting a family (in order to “break with the fatalistic nature” of cycles); other times, this will highlight a “particular connection,” for example with a child (not necessarily these people’s own child, for that matter), which can be more easily linked to shared emotional trauma, with each person helping the other to heal.

And of course, the overall forces of the black moon will be important to analyze for all of these things, as they will more precisely determine the impacts and how things will evolve.
