The Black Moon in the 8th house or Scorpio in birth chart

These are global energies of the Black moon in Scorpio or in the 8th House which must be nuanced according to your birth chart, see the article Black Moon in birth chart; see also the article on the general interpretation of the Black moon.
It represents an important karmic factor, at the same time a seed of incarnation (see the Triangle of incarnation), a source of attractions, compulsions, and also of fears, introversions.
The black moon is one of the attributes of the Anima in the chart, and as such it can indicate a Projection of the latter…
As the black moon remains 273 days per sign, its position in the houses is more telling for the personality, the archetypal color of the sign modulates according to it. Consequently, focus on the house impacted in the interpretation, the analysis of the sign must be subordinated to it.

Overcompensation with attachments

The black moon in the 8th house or in Scorpio may indicate great intensity and psychological depth; in this position, it highlights powerful forces of transformation and evolution, but also forces of destruction, which may have the effect of putting people with this positioning face to face with elements of fatality, depression, etc. The ability to relinquish things, detach from things, and let things go will be one of the main qualities to cultivate in order to sublimate these fears of “loss.”

This position for this karmic factor tends to emphasize all of “the excesses” of Plutonian forces. It may bring these people more directly face to face with “death” in various ways, and it may involve a very deep magnetism, with forces that are also often very hypnotic and enchanting, as well as a relationship with sexuality that may in fact be very powerful and marked by power struggles and games of domination, manipulation, jealousy, and possessiveness.

There may be a very significant contrast here between these people’s exterior and their internal violence and aggression, which may sometimes even be unconscious and which may express themselves in very “compulsive” ways; for example, we may see this in the form of various fixations, obsessions, dependencies, or neuroses, and a very powerful shadow may take shape here and risk leading to some degree of endogenous depression, which should be understood as a very important need for one’s evolutionary process, a radical evolutive phase (it’s sink or swim).

Fundamentally, this positioning of the black moon directly highlights the alchemical process of “Calcinatio” on a karmic level, thus truly requiring death and rebirth in this incarnation. This is a very Plutonian mechanism that requires that these people be able to “separate” what needs to be abandoned from what should be conserved so that they may continue their evolution.

The difficulty here is often that this necessary act of sorting is not simple, because the personality truly clings to “old patterns,” to certain realities that it would like to consider “unchangeable,” and this does not make adaptation and evolution any easier. This is why there is often much pain in the end, with outright destruction and fatality: because things hadn’t been fully consciously expressed in advance.

Incidentally, this is the main key to sublimating these energies: managing to consciously express them, understand their meaning, give them shape, and not wait for a “breakdown” to do this, but instead controling and dominating them yourself beforehand.

Often, this is about truly understanding the roots of the destructive, aggressive foundations that are attached to the personality: why am I feeling this way? Why do I “need” to experience this thing in this way?

It is important not to forget that we are clearly in the fixed cross and in the axis of possessions here. Much will happen as a result of working on “attachments,” on control, on the ways in which we value things, and on truly understanding what we may “possess” and how we behave with these things, and this requires much sublimation in relation to these elements.

This is a very “secretive” position that also tends to activate “several personalities,” such that there may for example be a “respectable” social facet with a conventional appearance, but with an interior that churns in an extreme, potentially hidden way, which requires that these people find outlets which can sometimes be complex and cause them to become marginalized in a way.

Many of these karmic forces are likely to be found in projections in interpersonal relationships, particularly affective relationships, and it is also important for people with this positioning to take care not to subject others to their own “demons” too much, and also not “beguile them” and lead them into violence.

Schematically, this position has two main axes of development, which may for that matter sometimes coexist within a single person during a single incarnation over time:

  • The axis of an ascending spiral will allow for significant spiritualization of everything, even mysticism, and we will encounter it for example in tantric sexuality, in the act of taking a step back, and in thorough psychoanalysis (in the proper sense of the word); this may often allow for the mitigation of destructive patterns and for understanding with perspective and empathy, including in relation to others.
  • The axis of a descending spiral, which will have a “need” to lose, destroy, and break things, is for working on forces of renunciation, detachment, and letting go, as well as for understanding the evolution that is necessary for the personality of people with this positioning, but it is also likely to cause these people to “abuse” their magnetism in various ways and ultimately lead them to frequently get their fingers burned.

“Possessions and losses” here is not only in the “material” sense of money and in terms of social management of resources that are shared with a partner or with “society” and other people (a company, inheritance, taxation), but also in the sense of “people:” for any relationship that may create a sense of belonging, this black moon may have a direct impact on these different factors.

The doctrine of Buddhism, with its notions of the impermanence of things and emancipation from attachments and vacuity, could teach these people a huge amount and allow them to fight against fears of emptiness and death (I would not be surprised if the Buddha had this sort of position himself, or a 2/8 axis that was highly accentuated in various ways, what with the Sun in Taurus already being attributed to him).

The planet Pluto is of course particularly important to analyze, in terms of the aspects that it forms and the overall forces that it may release; notably, depending on whether it has a more direct influence on the Animus or the Anima, it will be projected differently, and thus it will not be expressed in the same way when it comes to forces of love.

Yet, it is in fact this very capacity for “love” that will tip things into an ascending or descending spiral to varying degrees.

Likewise, the planet Mars, as the traditional ruler of Scorpio, may specify which types of forces of action any Plutonian energy may be expressing, depending on whether or not this planet is dignified or in tension, and often we will notice that it has a distinctive karmic charge and may for example be a sign of a poor track record of “abusing” these energies, or, on the contrary, difficulty getting in touch with them.

It is very important, though, for people with this positioning to free themselves from any visions that are too “pessimistic” and that may be linked to this position, and also not let themselves be frightened by aphorisms or particular words; instead, they need to understand that this may fundamentally be a sign of major karmic processes of evolution during their incarnation, which they should take advantage of.
