Here, we are talking about the overall energies when the axis of the lunar nodes lies in Virgo/Pisces or in the 6th/12th houses, which absolutely need to be nuanced based on your birth chart and its various karmic factors; see also the article on the general interpretation of the Lunar nodes.
They represent a karmic axis of the highest importance, linked directly to your triangle of incarnation, and they symbolize both the innate, fundamental parts of yourself that you have mastered (the south node in the 6th House / Virgo) and the pathway of your development during this incarnation (the north node in the 12th House / Pisces).
They stay in each axis of signs for about one and a half years, which is what gives them their more general, “generational” archetypal colors; their positions in houses are more meaningful in terms of giving depth to your personality, and this is what should be analyzed as a matter of priority, while the analysis of signs will clarify their mode of action.
Opening up to the Spirit and to Love
The axis of the south node in Virgo / the north node in Pisces or of the south node in the 6th house / the north node in the 12th house is the axis of devotion, service, and assistance, so it invites us to cultivate our sensitivity, our emotional receptiveness (including in an artistic context), and our forces of selflessness, self-sacrifice, forgiveness, and openness to the Absolute, the transcendent, and the metaphysical and to connecting with the universal monad.
Thus, here in the south node, there are significant foundations of “social utility” and work; many forces establish themselves through their “function,” and these forces are likely to swallow up the other parts of our life.
It is important to carefully make sure that a notion of constant “subordination” is not spontaneously created, a head space where we situate ourselves only in relation to what we can “produce,” where we can feel grounded only if we are efficient, “useful,” and productive in terms of making a profit, and where our confidence in these abilities constantly wavers. It would in fact be good to put this into a more absolute, universalizing perspective, in terms of what we can “give” to the world and what the world is ready to provide in return.
There is very much a confrontation at play here between, on the one hand, “cerebral” forces, which lead us more towards logic, rationality, and concrete analysis, and, on the other hand, “emotional, receptive” forces, which should be developed and which instead require that we open up to our feelings and our unconscious and that we find and express our sensitive side.
Often, with Virgo’s influences, the notion of “purity” is excessive, which has a direct impact on the management of the body, and therefore these people encounter many problems with anxiety and nervousness, which have psychosomatic repercussions, in addition to frequent problems connected to managing food and water intake and nutrition (these notions may be diet-related, but may also often be connected with anorexia/bulimia).
In terms of positives, this can be very helpful for “personal development,” possibly for the people with this positioning themselves, but also when it comes to helping others with their own paths, fears, and limits, and having the north node in Pisces or the 12th house may also boost the need to cultivate activities related to medical care and healing, just as much psychologically as physically, for that matter.
The planets Mercury and Neptune, as the karmic rulers of these nodes, will be very helpful to analyze for this axis of development; they may specify the nature of the evolution that is required as well as how easy it will be to sublimate earth/water dualities, which may for that matter impact the ways in which these people are torn between “matter and spirit“.
Virgo may lead people to be extremely inflexible with themselves, as people with this sign are often the ones who have the greatest tendency to put themselves down and set the bar high in terms of what they expect of themselves, and in opposition, the Neptunian, Pisces influences of the north node remind me very much of the Buddhist maxim that asks us to “make friends with ourselves.”
This is not at all about tolerating and accepting everything or letting things fall into anarchy, but instead managing to set things on equal footing in terms of the sacrifices that we are willing to make for others: to put it plainly, if we could never reproach someone else for something, why reproach ourselves for it?
For earth overall—and not only in Virgo, for that matter—Neptunian energies may be very, very frightening, because they represent energies of “dissolution” that go completely against the process of creating material structure!
There is an all-encompassing crisis of values here, a questioning of fundamental, structural principles, and this positioning is not about gaining logical reassurance from measurable things, but instead is about opening up to the forces of the spirit and of love, detecting that which goes beyond first impressions, and accepting the idea of moving on to a higher stage of consciousness, rising up, and changing our code and even our entire paradigm so as to finally see the fundamental oneness of everything, which corresponds with erasing inherited “barriers” in various ways.
Introspection may be very important to practice in this context, and, paradoxically, powerful Saturnian forces of earth may give support for developing qualities related to withdrawal, meditation, and psychological searching, just like Plutonian energies, for that matter (both planets should be analyzed)!
Behind this north node hides contact with the sacred and the divine, but just as the ancient astrologers and alchemists said, there is a great “guardian at the threshold”:
- with too much earth and not enough water, we lock ourselves up in paralyzing tendencies that allow for little evolution, fear dominates, and we would rather “preserve” that which is known than move towards any sort of “unknown”
- with too much water and not enough earth, it’s the opposite: psychological instability dominates and when we go past a certain stage we risk “not being able to go back,” with complete and truly destructive disintegration occurring
There is thus a balance that should be struck between these forces, but much will also happen through our “social function,” that is, through work, as this is really the keystone that should allow for these energies to be “reconciled” in the best way possible!
In some cases this may also occur in an artistic context. We know that people with the Virgo archetype can make remarkable, very meticulous “artisans” who know how to combine working with their hands with a deep, intellectual understanding of things. In addition, if we add a few pinches of emotional receptiveness, we may get an artist, a musician, a poet, a sculptor, a dancer, or a writer, and it would thus be important to gain recognition for these qualities socially out in the world.
But this is not easy either, because some part of Pisces and of the 12th house represents “the end of a cycle” and a sector of “shadow,” not in the Jungian sense of the Shadow, but more simply in the sense of a sector which is connected to the collective unconscious, which has difficulty breaking through the barrier of consciousness, and which requires secretiveness and to remain “hidden” backstage, far from the spotlight (collective vibrations are perceived but are fundamentally more difficult to express).
It is likely that solitude will be important for people with this positioning, allowing them to return to “neutral,” carry out a “karmic purge,” and redefine the contours of their own personality and the schemas that they have inherited (including from their family, for that matter). Neptune may also very much represent forces of “forgiveness” that should be cultivated; this is a process that forms a direct part of the alchemical “Solutio” that this planet requires.
Practices such as Yoga, or practices that make experiences with modified states of consciousness possible, may be experienced and may be very useful for the openness that is required here, to allow these people to let go, detach, and recognize new potential realities of “being” to put into practice.

Great article, thanks! Oh, and when I tried to go to your website from Google I got a warning saying you might be a phishing website for astro.com since your address is so similar… but you’re obviously 100% legit. Is there any way you can straighten this out with them? I’m sure it’s not good for your traffic.
Thank you for warning me about this, I don’t know why Google treats my website like this, indeed it is a problem for me… 🙁
If you can report on a button that my site is not phishing, it would help me a lot…….
