Diary writing is a fairly common practice, especially among women, and it’s an experience that has a lot of psychological virtues.
It’s a question of combining all the interests of a classical diary by adding to it a more transcendental “astral” vision.
We find in astrology an obvious practical utility: to establish the correlation between the Transits, the Progressions and the life of each one.
It’s a clever way to learn astrology and really understand it empirically, through experimentation, by working on oneself and on one’s own Birth chart.
It just takes a little time, a certain assiduity and diligence over time…
Why keep an astrological diary ?
The human memory is often “capricious”, we forget things or memories change over time…
Recording one’s feelings and the events in accordance with astrological events, allows to archive them, to remember them and especially to take a step back in order to be able to analyze all things afterwards.
This type of writing exercise is a moment of frankness and impartiality with oneself, it aims at obtaining the famous revealing “catharsis effect” which produces an introspection process and leads to an evolutionary crisis, gives a meaning, an order, to what may seem chaotic.
Writing an astrological diary is intended to help you progress in your knowledge of yourself and in your appreciation of the Social Relationships you have with others, through the parallel study of astrology.
It’s about observing your life, observing analogies and astral Synchronicity, determining the extent of your receptivity to this or that sector, this or that planet, this can greatly help you to structure your mind as well as your emotions, thus your life.
This type of diary is of great interest for a “seeker” on the path of his or her evolution, there are many possible evolutions afterwards.
How to keep astrological data ?
Remember to print out the Astral Chart of the day either on paper or in digital format, with all the enumeration of Planets, Signs, Houses, maybe not at each entry, but regularly.
On the technical side, when you write down astrological data be as precise as possible. This is not to do academic or scientific astrology, but an increased accuracy at the beginning will allow you to better find your way later on.
So for an entry of the day you will specify for example :
“Moon 2° Pisces conjunction Mars 8°”
If you are writing the next day, it may not be useful to re-precise the moon’s position to within a degree if you are talking about it again, you can say “exact conjunction”.
Re-specifying the position will be useful if there is a highlight that occurs during the day and/or a change of sign or the constitution of an exact fast aspect of the planet.
You can use abbreviations or symbols if you know them and are able to remember them, but be careful.
How to start this astrological diary ?
In the absolute, it’s more than judicious to have beforehand a good knowledge of one’s birth chart in order to be able to really situate “in what” the “events” take place (let us recall that the Transits and Progressions only accomplish the scheme of the birth potentialities, they are in a way the plans of their implementation).
It’s certainly a good idea to start your diary with a topo of the global configurations of the background transits in which this diary is initiated, especially also in relation to Generic Cycles.
Specify for example the situation of slow planets, or define if a particular transit has just started, like a Retrograde motion or the entry of a planet in a new sign, or the constitution of an aspect…
It could look like :
“I begin this diary under the influence of a retrograde loop of Mercury into Capricorn on January 5, 2016, Jupiter is conjoined with the North Node in Virgo, etc. In my Secondary Progressions, the progressed Sun activates Mars, etc… My 2015’s Solar Return indicates an activation of the energies of Sagittarius, notably by Saturn return, then, in such and such a way etc…”
As mentioned above, it will be useful to add an impression of the solar return, of the progressions and the map of transits.
What should each daily journal entry include ?
To make a good correlation, each entry must contain 2 types of data, astrological data and factual event data.
Date the day and place, or even the time, these points are important if you want to do astrological research later on this period.
+ Specify astrological context
From time to time, specify the Progressions evolution, evoke the evolution of the background Transits (example : “Pluto 15° Capricorn goes retrograde, entry of Jupiter in Leo, Saturn in Sagittarius”), and for the rest focus on the fast transits : Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Black moon, Lunar Nodes…
Don’t forget to watch all the progress of the cycles : from the constitution to the dissolution of the Aspects, specify if the aspect is increasing or decreasing , etc.
In a daily empirical study, the exact position of the Moon must be particularly analyzed : degree, sign, house, aspect, by transit and progression… This analysis reveals the moon impact each day, you will see its influences.
Some people are more sensitive to the moon than others but on the whole you will see, some “points”, which you may not think of, are much more sensitive than you would think, some signs are highly valued, some houses see their importance underlined at certain periods…
+ Resituate the global and factual context
When taking notes, for example, specify the following :
“Day at work, I started the X file” or “Weekend with my family, I saw my parents”, etc…
Think about the day’s content, what did you do ? What did you learn ?
Evoke your ideas, your impulses, your actions, your projects, your ideals, your dreams, your regrets, your brakes.
Specify the external facts as well as your internal thoughts, your intuitions, your feelings, your impressions…
Have you been angry or anxious ? sad or happy ? surprised ? disillusioned ? cold ? empty ? etc…
Try to specify your inner world with as many qualifiers as possible.
Record the positive as well as the negative ! It’s frequent that the human mind focuses on the negative and the worst, by occulting the positive and the best, try to be objective, note what is usual as well as what is unusual…
Try to connect the 3 axes together :
- the astrological fact
- the “outside event” part of the daily routine
- the feeling and the “inner thoughts” that accompany it
Each entry in the diary does not have to be 20 lines long, you can be content with the “minimum living wage”, just as you do not have to make an entry every day.
Just remember to write down the details that you will find useful later, experience will help you to identify them.
The main thing is to have fun doing it, it shouldn’t be a chore but on the contrary an “educational game”.
Tip : try to write something quickly that goes through your head for fear of it flying away quickly, take notes often (I know something about it).
Read what you write periodically, and make comparisons
For example, once a month at the new moon, reflect on the past lunation.
For example, compare the periods when the moon transits a particular sign, or when the moon is in square to such and such a natal position, or at such and such a planet in transit.
Of course, no two transits are exactly the same, but you will be able to see certain constants emerging.
Don’t hesitate to link the dates between them, short transits, long transits, secondary progressions, rapid updates, it’s this connection which will allow you to progress in the knowledge of astrology as much as of yourself.
Such a diary can be very important in helping you to perceive your sensitivities to different transits and astral influences.
You can later expand this astrological diary according to your desires and inspirations.
For example, you can also think of also write down your dreams when waking up, by marking them well in relation to the astrological elements. Indeed, certain types of dreams often accompany the change of certain phases, and it can be interesting to study their meaning in parallel.
To go further, you can also try to remember important moments of your lives, record the transits and progressions at work during this period, study their interactions (beware, however, of the “quality of memory” which has a strong tendency to forget or modify events).
In your astrological diary, you can still study the “horary chart” of a meeting or a significant event, or you can draft a Synastry to compare your birth chart with that of any person.
