Description of Saturn in Transit Through the Houses and Zodiac Signs

Be careful not to confuse natal Saturn in your birth chart with the transits of Saturn through the signs and houses, which refer to the planet’s yearly movement as I describe it in the different lunation studies and in the premium articles.

As it progresses through the Zodiac, Saturn highlights the energetic archetype of the sign or the sector represented by the house it is crossing, often demanding seriousness, discipline, and maturity, while imposing tests, restrictions, or contraction.
This transit is often feared by astrology enthusiasts for these reasons, for the “bad reputation” attached to this planet, and also for its slowness, which frequently means that any aspect it forms will last several months, sometimes more than a year.
Notably, you may read the excellent book by astrologer Liz Greene, “Saturn: A New Look at an Old Devil”, which attempts to rehabilitate this planet within a more modern humanistic and psychological vision of astrology (far removed from the label of the “Great Malefic”).

This is a medium to long-term transit lasting approximately three years per sign, about one year per decan, so it necessarily carries considerable depth and weight in terms of destiny and fundamental evolution (remember that Saturn takes about 29 years to complete one full cycle of the zodiac).
Sometimes Saturn may emphasize and sensitize certain points during its retrograde motions.
Its rhythm is not uniform, and its retrograde phases are long, nearly one third of the year, meaning the impacted sector is extremely solicited, especially if important natal aspects are formed at that time, and this annual retrogradation is always very important for this social planet ! (it can imprint a pause or a suspension of our projects and relationships).
It is very important to correlate these Saturnian transits with those of the other social planet, Jupiter.

I describe here the general, non-individual energies, analogous to the twelve sectors of the chart.
Saturn takes approximately three years to pass through one zodiac sign (30°), which will also apply to equal house systems.
However, for temporal house systems (such as Placidus), since the houses are often unequal, the duration of the transit may vary accordingly.

These interpretations are not intended to “predict events” or describe specific facts; however, they provide a simple idea of the astrological atmosphere specific to each transit.
For all personal astrological forecasts, any personal interpretation must of course be nuanced in relation to your birth Chart, taking into account the overall astrological pattern.
