Description of Mercury Transiting the Houses and the Zodiac Signs

Be careful not to confuse natal Mercury in your birth chart with Mercury transits through the signs and houses, which refer to the planet’s annual cycle, as I describe them in the various lunations and in my premium articles.

As it moves forward through the Zodiac, Mercury brings into focus the energetic archetype of the sign or the life sector represented by the house it is crossing, infusing it with logic, rationality, intelligence, movement, and circulation.
Mercury transits directly highlight mental and social dynamics, as well as needs related to communication, learning, teaching, transmission, change, and novelty.

This is a fast transit, and as such it truly sets the rhythm of even the most subtle variations of our daily life, on the scale of a week or even a single day. For this reason, it can be important to correlate Mercury transits with Moon transits, the other fastest-moving body in the system, which can provide a highly complementary rhythm and act as a triggering factor.

What I describe here are general, non-individual energies, analogous to the twelve sectors of the chart. Mercury takes approximately 20 days to travel through one zodiac sign (30°), outside of retrograde periods. This timing also applies to equal house systems; however, in temporal house systems (such as Placidus), where houses are often unequal, transits may last longer or shorter depending on the configuration.

These interpretations are not intended to “predict events” or describe specific facts; rather, they provide a simple sense of the astrological atmosphere associated with each transit.
For all personal astrological forecasts, it is of course essential to qualify any interpretation in relation to your birth chart, taking into account the overall astrological structure.
