I Ching Hexagram 3: Difficulty at the Beginning, astrological interpretation

I-Ching Category

Interpretation: A period of time that confronts you with difficulty, with a step that needs to be taken, with a sort of reality test that comes after theoretical phases of conceptualization and an impulse to create. This is all about demonstrating patience and perseverance so as to successfully overcome not only any trials but also a kind of inertia, routine, and security.
You will have to take stock of potential qualities and sources of assistance, but the present issue requires additional effort.
This is not a time for initiating anything, strictly speaking, but rather for determining what truly needs to survive and endure beyond the confusion, or what simply needs to cease and die.

Astrological points to pay attention to: Here, we find the astrological symbolism of the Square in the cycle of aspects (as well as the square family, so also the Semi-Square and Sesquisquare), which represents a “hitch,” a tension between different forces, but in anticipation of achieving some sort of sublimation and moving on to a higher level of expression.
These are energies that may be both particularly creative and also destructive, since they hold some degree of violence and fatality, which may lead to the end of action and of things.
We also find Plutonian symbolism, which is the upper octave of these energies. If Mars and Saturn represent “trials” in their external, material aspect, as the “malefics” of traditional astrology, Pluto is in a way the guardian of the final threshold; it represents the transformative groundswell that will dictate what needs to be abandoned and conserved in the cycle of our evolution, and it does so in a definitive way.
These are elements that need to be particularly well monitored just as much in terms of your forecasted activations (transits, progressions) as in your birth chart, and it may for that matter allow you to get to the root of these things (for example, if a quadrature crops up between two planets, go analyze the period of time when they formed a Conjunction, and this may give you some indications that may clarify the meaning of the current cycle).

Remarks: This hexagram symbolically sets the bar high; in a way it puts us in the position of an athlete before achieving their goal, both feverish and wanting to prove their worth, with a need to focus on their goal.
