The various astrological cycles, through Secondary Progressions and Transits, possess a power of Projection that is very often underestimated.
At times (quite often, in fact) this contributes to our misunderstanding of certain cycles, simply because we are unfamiliar with this principle of Projection, or because we fail to take it into account.
To put it simply, the cycles shown in our birth chart can also manifest through those close to us !
In reality, there is an obvious synergy between what we experience astrologically and what can be transposed onto those around us, and this can logically take many different forms, more or less subtle.
Several examples can help to clarify this.
Planets already carry within themselves an intrinsic meaning and symbolism that naturally connect them to certain personality types.
For example, the Moon can indicate the way one expresses the maternal archetype or the archetype of the spouse (if one is a woman), as well as the family, but it also represents one’s own mother.
Thus, if in our own chart an astrological cycle affects our natal Moon, it is entirely possible that this cycle does not affect us personally, but instead, “by proxy”, intervenes directly through our spouse or our mother.
This already highlights the importance of truly understanding the natural symbolism of each planet (who represents what).
But even more subtly, it frequently happens that certain planetary functions can take on, in a way, the role “by destination” of someone close to us.
Imagine, for example, a husband whose birth chart is strongly marked by Sagittarius; it is then quite possible that in the wife’s chart, the planet Jupiter (ruler of that sign) comes to embody the husband by destination.
In that case, astrological activations affecting her natal Jupiter may very well be experienced through the husband, or via him.
For instance, a transit associated with professional recognition activating the woman’s natal Jupiter could be experienced “by proxy” through recognition granted to her husband during that same period…
And here I have used Jupiter as an example, but the husband could just as easily embody any other planet: Pluto, Neptune, Mars, or even… the Moon in certain cases ! (despite being a feminine planet, it is entirely possible for a man to be very “lunar”, sensitive, gentle, receptive, just as a woman can be strongly solar).
Another example involves the symbolism of the Houses.
We know that Houses are traditionally associated with certain close relationships (siblings for the 3rd House, the romantic partner for the 7th House, children for the 5th House, etc).
Therefore, an astrological cycle affecting these sectors can manifest very directly through, or via, these close ones.
It is thus very common for certain events of “our astrological life” not to manifest directly within us, but through others.
This is why, when one suspects such a mechanism at work, it becomes important to also analyze the birth chart of the person concerned, in order to understand the synergy created by the planetary functions involved.
Understood this way, it is in a sense the other person who becomes the carrier of change for us, and who may act (more or less unconsciously) as a vector of various evolutionary processes.
This mechanism will generally be all the more sensitive when the planet involved (susceptible to projection and proxy) is poorly conscious or insufficiently integrated within the personality.
And this happens quite often, since those close to us frequently carry a major complementary charge to our own birth chart; they may have natural access to planetary functions or archetypes that we ourselves lack.
Thus, the mechanism of Projection operates not only at the level of the birth chart structure, but also throughout all predictive cycles (which further multiplies the possible evolutionary ramifications).
So sometimes, when asking “why don’t I feel this transit ?”, the answer is simply that one is analyzing one’s life in too self-centered way, without realizing that the transit is expressing itself more broadly within one’s close circle…
That being said, these mechanisms of Projection and proxy should not be seen as passive for us, because for a meaningful resonance to operate in our inner evolution, we must necessarily possess the right “keys” within our own birth chart.
Without these keys, without this specific astrological signature embodied by the chart, there would be no projected resonance at all.
It is therefore best understood as a whole, a system in which the different individuals making up our environment fit together seamlessly.
From this perspective, it becomes both interesting and important to identify, for each close person, which planetary functions they are most likely to embody.
This can greatly facilitate the understanding of these mechanisms in the present moment…
Beyond that, one often becomes aware of transgenerational family karmic patterns, involving various planetary functions across ancestors and descendants, and more strongly tied to these very mechanisms of Projection.
This can range from relatively simple situations, such as sharing the same planetary position (in my own case, my parents and I, all have the Moon conjunct the beginning of Aries), to more complex configurations (such as sharing tense composite aspects).
In all cases, as with astrology in general, it remains particularly important to “bring consciousness” to what we understand and experience.
So if it sometimes happens that major astrological turning points do not seem to concern us directly (no career change, no breakup, no particular personal epiphany) one should not neglect to analyze the changes taking place around us.
Because major events are still unfolding: a partner goes through a trial, a child reaches an important realization, a close relative divorces, a friend becomes pregnant, a colleague experiences burnout, and so on…
All of this should draw our attention to what we may be experiencing astrologically by proxy.
Within this entire relational theater, each person plays an important role for the other: our cycles become their understanding, and their events act upon our own revelations.
