Astrology and decision-making: a humanistic perspective

Astrology: understanding, analysis, and solutions

I am someone very pragmatic: when I am faced with a decision to make, I like to have the maximum amount of information at my disposal in order to decide as clearly as possible.
And astrology is a powerful decision-making tool. It brings additional elements to our awareness, allows for detachment and a different perspective, and gives us direct access, even to deep unconscious patterns.

The astrological approach allows for:

  • greater clarity through an objective understanding of situations
  • a subjective and psychological analysis (including the identification of various blockages)
  • a “prospective” function, by analyzing current Transits and Progressions and the future unfolding of their cycles (and also Solar Returns).
The study of transits and progressions allows us to determine, on an individual level, how events are adjusted to the structure of our lives.

These three dimensions provide complementary perspectives that support decision-making.
They can be found more directly within my consultations.

Humanistic astrology is one decision-making tool among others, and it should be combined with additional approaches.
For example, if your business or your relationship is going through difficulties, it is essential to cross-reference as much information as possible in order to find the most appropriate solution: consult your accountant, a relationship counselor, seek advice from family and friends, and analyze the birth chart to understand the astrological influences at play (see Astrology in Business).

It’s precisely the combination of all these sources of information that will refine your understanding of the issue, support your decision-making process, and help you determine the most appropriate actions.
Very often, the solution lies in a “blend” of the different insights gathered.

Consulting a good astrologer, through their mission of guidance and support and in accordance with a code of ethics, can primarily help you along the three axes mentioned above in order to clearly define a problem:

  • 1 – an objective diagnosis of the issue
  • 2 – an analysis of personal feelings and inner experiences
  • 3 – the identification of potential developments over the medium and long term, including the use of Electional Charts to determine a date or period to favor or avoid (Should I move forward with this project? If so, when is the most favorable time ?)

A proper integration of these three essential dimensions represents a significant asset in any problem-solving process.
However, a good astrologer is not a guru: they will never dictate your behavior. Through their analyses, you remain free to make any decision consciously, based on a deeper process of personal understanding.

In all cases, whatever the problem one may face in human existence, respecting the following basic principles will greatly help both in gaining perspective and in resolving the issue at its core:

  • do not isolate yourself, and do not lie to yourself
  • talk about it with those close to you, communicate
  • try to list all the advice or ideas you have gathered to find a way out
  • do not lose hope: despair is useless in solving a problem; anger, when conscious, can be more constructive

Finally, keep in mind the words of a Buddhist proverb:
“If a problem has a solution, worrying is pointless; if it has no solution, worrying will not change anything.”

Before worrying, determine whether the problem is actually solvable.
