Today, I am pleased to share a guest article, a philosophical and astrological tale written by Stella, who wished to share it with us to provoke reflection on the astrological pattern of the T-square (an Opposition to which at least a third planet forms a Square). This is an original and unconventional way of perceiving the celestial bodies… 🙂
When Sun, Moon, and Mars Become Entangled…
Sun, Moon, and Mars had been friends forever, and knew each other by heart.
They had grown up together, shared each other’s joys and sorrows, and despite the deep friendship that bound them, they could not help but bicker constantly.
These three were fundamentally different, and could never seem to agree !
Moon was profoundly dreamy and could spend hours, even days, letting her imagination wander.
Sun, for his part, was impetuous and somewhat combative on the edges; he could not sit still !
As for Mars, he was of a rather wise nature; he preferred to observe and reflect before making the slightest decision, with justice being his primary concern.
These very different temperaments posed a problem for the three friends, who could sometimes hurt one another without intending to, and this made them deeply unhappy.
Venus caught wind of these incessant conflicts and decided to intervene:
“My friends, why inflict all this trouble upon yourselves ? Do you not see that it is by working together that you will finally find joy ?”
The Scorpio Ascendant, passing by, overheard the conversation and hid behind a tree to observe the three friends’ reaction.
Moon replied: “Venus, you are surely right, but I do not know how to go about it ! Sun and Mars never leave me in peace, whereas I bother no one; I just want to be left to dream !”
Mars reacted sharply to these words: “You are being unfair, Moon ! You cannot hold us responsible for all your woes ! If you spend your time dreaming, what are we supposed to do on our end ? Spend our lives waiting for you to deign to grant us your attention ?”
And Sun chimed in: “You may be right, Mars, but you are hardly in a position to talk ! Every time I have a brilliant idea (and I have them all the time) all you know how to tell me is to wait and be cautious ! Pfft, as if I care the least bit about being cautious ! And Moon, who is always afraid of getting hurt !! You two are exhausting !”
And so the three friends began to argue once more, under Venus’s sorrowful gaze.
It was at this moment that the Ascendant stepped out from his hiding place and decided to intervene:
“That is enough ! Each of you has your flaws and your qualities ! Begin by becoming aware of your own shortcomings, then of your companions’ strengths, and finally ask yourselves what the others can bring to you. If you do not make this effort, you will spend your lives quarreling and being unhappy. Is that truly what you want ? Venus is right, and you know it, so I advise you to reflect deeply on this.”
The three planets fell silent, unsettled by these words; they had become so accustomed to pointing out their friends’ faults that they had forgotten they also possessed virtues !
Each returned home, promising to reflect on the Ascendant’s discourse and to resume the conversation the following day.
The next day, the three friends met as agreed, under Venus’s benevolent gaze and the Ascendant’s critical eye.
Mars took the initiative to begin: “Sun, your courage can help me make decisions and take action, something I sometimes struggle with. And you, Moon, your empathy can help me be even more just in my actions by taking others’ sensitivity into account.”
Moon blushed then, and said: “Mars, Sun, you possess the strength and will to pull me out of the emotional waters in which I sometimes drown. I know I can lack discernment, and that you can both offer wise counsel, each in your own way. You are complementary.”
Sun smiled and looked tenderly at Moon, saying: “You are so beautiful, my Moon; there is so much love in your heart ! Your gentleness soothes my warrior soul ! And you, Mars, your wisdom helps me balance my impatience and my fervor ! I admit that my ideas are not always so brilliant, in fact, and that taking time to dream does me good as well…”
All three then promised, as Venus had so rightly said, to listen to one another, always to communicate together, and to work in concert, for thanks to the Ascendant, they had understood that they all had things to learn from one another, and above all, that they were stronger together than each one alone.
The Astrologer’s Note
Here is a complex astrological figure described through a philosophical, metaphorical tale, one that clearly illustrates the tensions such aspects can generate, while also evoking possible paths toward sublimation.
In this case, the Sun is in Aries, Mars in detriment in Libra, and the Moon in its domicile in Cancer.
The weakness of the Martian energies makes them more easily overwhelmed by lunar emotions; yet this lunar part also forms a pivot enabling dialogue within the opposition.
Here, it is a Venus in Aquarius along with a Scorpio Ascendant that play the mediators, the conciliators, allowing each perspective to deepen.
Often, the Ascendant enables this work in tension aspects directly involving personality, for example, even in the case of a simple Sun/Moon square, it is the Ascendant that can facilitate a better synthesis of the two.
A T-Square is a delicate and complex pattern of tension to manage, to understand, to express, but this does not mean it lacks a path toward sublimation, toward resolution…
It is largely the planet at the apex that will act as arbiter, but much also depends on the rest of the chart, which will accentuate this or that point, notably through Rulerships.
