The Black Moon in the 1st house or Aries in birth chart

These are global energies of the Black moon in Aries or in the 1st House which must be nuanced according to your birth chart, see the article Black Moon in birth chart; see also the article on the general interpretation of the Black moon.
It represents an important karmic factor, at the same time a seed of incarnation (see the Triangle of incarnation), a source of attractions, compulsions, and also of fears, introversions.
The black moon is one of the attributes of the Anima in the chart, and as such it can indicate a Projection of the latter…
As the black moon remains 273 days per sign, its position in the houses is more telling for the personality, the archetypal color of the sign modulates according to it. Consequently, focus on the house impacted in the interpretation, the analysis of the sign must be subordinated to it.

Overcompensation and self-affirmation

The black moon in the 1st house or Aries is directly linked to forces of the ego, self-affirmation, and combativeness; it represents a significant energy in these domains and may have certain fears attached to it as well, but it may also be linked to overcompensation, over-assertiveness, and various forms of violence.

This position directly links the black moon to Mars’s energies, and thus to forces of struggle and of business skills, your physique, and your vitality, and it may give you excellent self-control.

In a way, this position sensitizes the construction of the ego, and it may lead to rather intense extremes around this, often with significant needs for compensation specifically related to these Martian forces.

The black moon often operates by creating pairs of opposite extremes, and in some cases, this may create psychological instability and lead to a highly “polymorphic” personality, where these people have trouble structuring their personality around a “fixed” identity (Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain); in other cases, this will instead lead to a very strong, powerful ego, one which is sometimes even violent and aggressive and which is highly structured on the basis of the individual person (it may be individualistic and egocentric), with a very solid, well-defined personality that is strong enough to fight a solo battle against everything to assert its originality or quirky side if need be (Alain Delon, Krishnamurti, Pablo Picasso, Gandhi).

Often, in the end there is a mixture between these two extremes, which may lead to a somewhat “crazy” side in terms of aggressiveness, but as the black moon represents a spark of karmic incarnation (see the triangle of incarnation), it is also important to understand that these are fundamental parts of us that should be sublimated: they are not necessarily “rigid.”

The black moon in the 1st house / Aries may incidentally also lead one’s personality to be more similar to the personality of Pluto in the 1st house in some respects, in terms of forces of transformation, magnetism, depth, self-control, and mechanisms related to power struggles.

In certain cases, it may also be similar to Uranus in the 1st house, in terms of trying to be iconoclastic and often being quirky or “out-of-sync” with standards and conventions; it may really push people to be unusual and to tend towards forces of provocation and confrontation.

The good thing is that this is a position that we can readily connect to Individuation, as well as to the liberating forces that this represents. This black moon may truly help transform one’s personality over the course of one’s incarnation and allow for a significant karmic purge here (leading to a quite distinct “before/after” difference in terms of behavior).

On the other hand, the notion of relationships with others will also be sensitive, but it will be difficult to be able to find a happy medium between the openness and trust in your neighbor that is necessary for your evolution versus the deep, instinctive distrust that pushes you to always quickly fall back on the common denominator that is the basic personal ego (why take the risk of opening up and depending on someone else if you have already found balance in your “independence?”).

There may be two very different, highly pronounced extremes within people with this positioning, especially early in life, with highly developed energies of nihilism and destruction, and thus it is important to find a healthier way of expressing all of this latent karmic fire, which may in fact lead to much spiritualization in the end.
The shadow and light are born from each other through their contrast: a deepening of the unconscious may allow for people to be reborn from their own dregs, and the archetype of the phoenix is greatly accentuated by these forces.

In fact, the black moon may be quite excessive in this angular position, as it asks these people to really fight against their own inner demons, their complexes, and their old psychological patterns, and in doing so it gives rise to a quest for meaning and a metaphysical investigation which may be very significant, but which may also often lead these people to question the very principles of their incarnation!

And of course this should be handled with much care, especially if the black moon is involved in sensitive aspects with Mars, Pluto, Saturn, or other factors that are known to be “malefic” or karmic and which thus risk causing all of this to get caught up in spirals of depression or perversion, with a tortured mind and spirit.

It may be very important for these people to find a way of consciously expressing their overall fire, through sports, sexuality, or any initiative or boldness, so that they may be noticed and valued socially; this will allow for a healthier form of expression of these karmic forces of Lilith.
