What do we actually mean by a “karmic transit” ? Here, I will focus more specifically on general principles surrounding the transits formed by karmic factors such as the Black moon (Lilith) and the Lunar Nodes.
These represent truly significant points, and at times major turning points, in relation to our fundamental karmic pattern and the deeper purpose of our incarnation.
During their movement through the sky, the key configurations to observe are returns, inversions or oppositions, and squares in relation to their natal positions, as well as the contacts they form with the luminaries, planets, or key sectors of the chart.
It’s worth noting that the cycle of the Black moon lasts roughly half the duration of a Lunar Nodes cycle (around 9 years versus approximately 18).
Their cycles are therefore directly correlated, not only symbolically, but also technically, as they unfold in Synchronicity.
Let us outline their generic cycles as they tend to manifest at approximate ages (to be cross-referenced with the generic cycles of all the other planets):
- 2.5 years: first increasing square of the black moon
- 4.5 years: opposition of the black moon; first increasing square of the nodes to their natal position
- 6.5 years: decreasing square of the black moon
- 9 years: black moon return; first inversion of the lunar nodes
- 11 years: second increasing square of the black moon
- 13.5 years: second opposition of the black moon
- 14 years: decreasing square of the nodes
- 15.5 years: second decreasing square of the black moon
- 18 years: second black moon return; first lunar nodes return

- 26.5 years: third black moon return
- 28 years: second inversion of the lunar nodes
- 35.5 years: fourth black moon return

- 44.5 years: fifth black moon return
- 46.5 years: third inversion of the lunar nodes
- 53 years: sixth black moon return
- 56 years: third lunar nodes return
- 62 years: seventh black moon return
- 65 years: fourth inversion of the lunar nodes
- 71 years: eighth black moon return
- 74.5 years: fourth lunar nodes return
- 79.5 years: ninth black moon return
- 83.5 years: fifth inversion of the lunar nodes

What concrete forms can these energies take ?
What kinds of “effects” do these karmic connections generate ?
These questions arise quite frequently in consultations. Such sensitive transits can manifest in several different ways:

- Very often, these energies are embodied through Projections. One may encounter a highly significant, even destiny-shaping, person, or conversely experience a separation from someone who was equally important but whose role is now complete. In all cases, “the other” acts as a catalyst helping us to realize something essential

- The fundamental karmic purpose of our existence may come into sharper focus. A major realignment or turning point can occur, requiring choices that bring us into greater alignment with who we truly are and with the projects we wish to pursue, sometimes involving radically different life directions. The notion of “focusing on the personality” is crucial here, as we are touching the very energies that weave the process of Individuation

- These transits can also take the form of revelations or events that have a direct impact on our lives but remain largely beyond our control. They may appear as unavoidable turning points, for example, a major family secret coming to light, or a sudden crisis that forces a complete change of direction
- Metaphysical themes tend to become more pronounced. One may experience heightened sensitivity to the environment, a decisive spiritual experience, or contact with energies previously unknown, sometimes involving mediumistic dimensions. Questions of life philosophy become central, and one may have striking premonitory dreams, powerful intuitions, or moments of inspiration (also highly relevant for creative and artistic expression)
To analyze all these elements properly, it’s of course essential to have a solid understanding of their meanings in the birth chart, since it’s from these foundations that the final orientation of the energies will emerge.

- the increasing square carries a dynamic of breaking inertia
- the opposition (or inversion for the Nodes) represents the midpoint of the cycle, comparable to a Full moon in relation to the New moon, a phase of objectivity and illumination, revealing what was initiated at the seed level during the previous conjunction
- the decreasing square marks culmination, intensification, completion, and preparation for the final assessment at the end of the cycle
