This is a medium-term transit (lasting approximately 45 to 60 days on average, excluding retrograde periods), which brings a dynamic useful for creation, breaking the status quo, self-assertion, demonstrating courage, and fighting for one’s position.
There is an “inflammation” of the sector concerned—an increase in nervousness, aggressiveness, and even violence.
The planet will not return to this area for roughly two years, which makes this passage particularly important for this personal planet.
Mars is one of the principal and essential attributes of the Animus; in this sense, the planet may indicate a Projection of it.
It also often provides insight into the man, the older brother, the eldest son, or the lover, expressing qualities colored by the sign it occupies.
Marker of a Major Social Milestone
Here, Martian energies acquire significant power and authority. In exaltation, they culminate at the top of the chart and are highly effective for gaining social and professional recognition, for embodying what one aspires to become and bringing it into concrete form.
“Work”, or more precisely one’s “social function”, takes center stage, not in order to initiate something (as would be the case with an angular passage over the Ascendant, for example), but rather to present it to the world, to have its value acknowledged and to receive the corresponding recognition.
This is no longer a directly “creative” phase; that stage has already been completed or set in motion. What has been created must now come alive before others, be displayed publicly, and be recognized by one’s peers.
There is no need to fear “social confrontation”. On the contrary, it should be actively sought: putting forward your goals, projects, ambitions, and various desires for outward Projection, organizing them, supporting them, structuring them.
This may also involve a more direct “confrontation with authority”, whether paternal authority if one is still young, or through a boss, a mentor, or the state. One must prove one’s worth, even defend it, and assert one’s place in relation to such structures.
This Mars can represent a “flowering”, a culmination within your personal zodiac, connected to projects that may have been emerging over the past two years.
It is therefore a very important angular phase in the Martian cycle, one not to be missed, but rather maximized in its potential.
Symbolically and analogically, the planet forms a positive alliance with Saturn, and we know that this can create a truly formidable combination (see my article on the Mars / Saturn pairing).
While this may lead to increased responsibilities, workload, and constraints, it ultimately serves the deeper aim of self-accomplishment and full realization.
At this stage, it may be important to step beyond one’s comfort zone, to question one’s sense of stability and habitual sources of reassurance (in reality the lunar polarity, which stands opposite this sector), in order to move toward a higher level of maturity, independence, and autonomy (toward the forthcoming 11th House), and simply to “grow” or “rise”.
At times, this also requires symbolically “cutting the cord”, as one is now at the furthest point from the lunar polarity.
The mother is no longer there to hold your hand; this sector and period reflect more fully the Animus and the Logos, and are therefore more “masculine and austere” in many respects.
If you have a strong Earth and/or Fire dominance, you will likely feel at home here. By contrast, strong Water dominants may feel less at ease, struggling to assert their rich emotional world, at times more changeable, dreamy, imaginative, or sensitive, and finding it harder to engage with the “concrete and material” dimension these forces require.
Be mindful as well of a potential “megalomaniac” tendency that may more easily emerge, especially if the transit is highly harmonious.
Mars can function here as a true “trigger factor”, creating the impression that “all doors are opening”, that recognition is flowing abundantly, and thus that one is the best (and therefore perhaps overly confident).
That said, there is no need to downplay the pleasure of it. This transit is relatively rare in the sky and does indeed mark the culmination of a medium-term “social objective”.
Mars is the principle of volition, the armed force of the Sun, and its transit weaves our everyday reality and our outward radiance, or our integration into the world, alongside the two social planets, Jupiter and Saturn.
This angular passage is therefore a very important milestone at these levels.
With these Martian forces at the zenith, it remains essential to reconnect with the “fundamental meaning” you wish to give to your social function.
Mars can be uncompromising here and will not tolerate a “sense of mediocrity” or inferiority, especially if sensitive natal factors such as Chiron or the Black moon are already present.
In that case, a strong dynamic of overcompensation may arise, potentially taking the form of a struggle or battle.
On the more challenging side, be careful not to neglect the family sphere, for example.
It is possible that “work” absorbs a large portion of your life during this period, making balance more difficult to maintain, something that could carry consequences later (even several months afterward, during the next Martian cycle).
If Mars retrograde in the 10th House or in Capricorn, this may emphasize social and professional trials, perhaps heightening a competitive spirit in order to prove something to others.
There may be a feeling that everything is being scrutinized more closely, requiring greater perfectionism, and therefore more time.
It may be necessary to reassess certain ambitions, not to persist stubbornly if certain things do not succeed as they stand or are not fully recognized.
In such cases, it can be wise to ease up, adapt, pivot, or change strategy.
The retrograde may allow you to review or refine your “fundamental goal”, ensuring that you do not confuse the path, the ultimate objectives sought, and the means employed to achieve them.
A clarification process may be required regarding all these elements.
This period is not necessarily synonymous with failure, but the natural Martian dynamic is restrained and must find a new impetus, a different form of engagement. As a result, things may take longer than initially expected.
