This is a medium to long-term transit (approximately three years per sign), which imposes discipline, responsibility, maturity, structure, and completion.
Saturn is one of the primary and essential attributes of the Animus, particularly its paternal dimension, what modern psychology would call the “critical parent” (the authoritarian parent who sets rules and boundaries), and is also associated with authority figures, the state, leadership, or an older person.
In this respect, the planet may indicate a projection of such figures, expressing qualities colored by the sign it occupies.
Its transit should not be feared more than any other; what truly matters is understanding the deeper evolutionary process it is asking of you.
Structuring One’s Inner Cleansing
Between Saturn’s earthy energies, which seek to crystallize, solidify, and retain, and Neptune’s watery energies, which instead tend to dissolve and open, one might think the contrast is quite extreme.
Yet, on the positive side, several important reconciliations between these forces are possible during this period…
It is often said that to bring out the best of water, one must rely on earth, first and foremost Saturn’s earthy forces, simply because this planet helps generate the necessary “grounding” upon which things can be structured and built (it is the “guardian of the threshold”).
In other words, it helps make the most practical and material use of our receptive emotional capacities.
Schematically speaking, the Neptunian background energies may produce ideals, idealizations, aspirations, and intuitions here, but Saturn’s forces are there to ask: “Yes, but how do we actually bring all of this into reality ?”
In this sector, Saturn also carries a very strong charge related to reviewing the entire cycle (see in particular what I discuss about the end of the 12th House).
As such, it may place us face‑to‑face with the fears and failures of recent years, asking us to draw lessons from them and to prepare the new impulse of personal affirmation that will arise during its passage through Aries / the 1st House.
In this respect, this Saturn transit can release extremely powerful introspective forces, and it may even call for wisdom and contemplation regarding the “meaning” we may have given to our lives over perhaps nearly the past thirty years…
Here Saturn will not be “active” in the fiery sense, but rather more passive and analytical, asking for greater coolness, distance, and perspective regarding even our most fundamental goals.
The 12th House, by its very function, always carries a strong notion of “karmic purge”.
During this Saturn transit, we may therefore feel more directly compelled to question ourselves inwardly about the realizations connected to our North Node and our Black moon.
How do we understand these karmic factors and our Shadow aspects ? Have we perhaps already managed to sublimate certain elements, or at least to understand them better, become conscious of them, and express them ?
As I have mentioned many times before, simply echoing what Carl Gustav Jung himself said, the confrontation with our Shadow is truly a major first step on the logical path of any individuality.
In that sense, this “end of the Saturn cycle” can only intensify the need to take stock of all this…
This may also explain why traditional aphorisms about Saturn in Pisces / the 12th House sometimes mention confusion, disorientation, uncertainty, dissatisfaction, isolation, solitude, or psychosomatic issues, since such outcomes often depend on the work we have done with our karmic factors.
Saturn’s forces may become more critical, even uncompromising in this regard.
It is as though they invite us to look beneath the surface, into the depths of our unconscious, and ask : “What have you done, karmically speaking, with the entire cycle I offered you ?”
This pressure may naturally intensify as the planet approaches the end of the sector : the required cleansing and karmic purge become more pressing and more intense, simply so that no dust is left under the carpet when the planet begins its new ascent through the zodiac.
In terms of alchemical processes, this Saturn transit can be particularly meaningful because it unites Coagulatio and Solutio, the famous alchemical maxim “Solve et Coagula”.
In other words, it invites us to understand, accept, and accompany a simultaneous dual process: something must dissolve on one side, while on the other our individuality must be re‑aggregated upon the remaining foundations.
Once again, the more consciously we accompany these forces in what they have to teach and bring us to realize, the less we will feel as though we are “suffering” the harshness or dryness of the process.
Yet Neptune can greatly assist here as well. The planet may help us place everything in the perspective of the Absolute itself—to “relativize” all things.
It may also help, through sublimation, to activate “forces of forgiveness”, acceptance, and detachment.
These should now be understood simply as the willingness to stop carrying certain elements that belonged to the previous cycle.
All of this may indeed make this Saturn transit somewhat “complex”, as many themes and concepts are addressed simultaneously.
Yet once again, the 12th House / Pisces represents an “end of cycle”, and in that sense its energetic and symbolic charge is naturally particularly powerful and significant.
In any case, we have roughly 3 years to sort, cleanse, and prepare ourselves as well as possible for the next cycle, lighter, more rewarding, and more “productive” in the realization of our fundamental karmic path.
For anything left under the carpet, within the Shadow, karmic factors, fears, blockages, or Complexes, will logically reappear in the next cycle and will still have to be addressed…
When Saturn is retrograde in the 12th House or in Pisces, this may symbolize periods in which the “rewinding” of the past cycle becomes far more pronounced and profound, and therefore potentially more demanding in terms of the necessary purge.
It is important to analyze the entire retrograde loop and the moment when Saturn turns direct again, in order to see whether this particularly sensitizes a sector or certain energies within our own birth chart…
