How to Use Your Birth Chart to “Be Happy”? 4 Simple Basic Keys

In this new year period, good resolutions abound, both as an opportunity to review the past year, and to lay the bricks for the year ahead to evolve in the best way… 😉

Often in consultations I see people who feel more “burdened” by a “bad birth chart”, without really managing to find ways to understand themselves and therefore evolve, and this article aims to highlight for them 4 essential astrological study paths to summarize things.

What can astrology bring me ?
How can my birth chart help me ?
And how to identify the main steps for this ?

Before going further, I recommend reading 3 important complementary articles to this one:

Step 1: Determine Your Elemental Dominances

We often come back to this important point : the astrological elemental energies truly constitute the most fundamental and essential division when it comes to the foundations of personality !

Understanding what is at play with your basic elemental dominances already allows for a great deal of meaning and understanding.

  • One elemental energy can overwhelm all the others
  • An elemental deficiency can set in and weigh down
  • In all cases, a hierarchy operates : one element dominates another
  • Sometimes one or several “rulers of the chart” can be established within planetary energies
  • An astrological pattern emerges and provides a mechanism of operation (predominance of certain Aspects or certain figures, Grand Cross, Grand Trine, which give a “logic of operation”)
  • Understanding the astrological Modes (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) clarifies the use of elemental energies…

To summarize : therefore try to divide, classify, and prioritize your strengths

Step 2: Rely on Your Innate Strengths

This point seems crucial to me ! Some astrological schools recommend blindly aiming for one’s north node…
Don’t understand it ? But that’s okay ! It represents the goal, so you put on blinders, pinch your nose, hold your breath, and go forth determinedly on this forced march !

I absolutely do not agree with this, obviously !!!

A house is built on foundations and according to logic; no “good craftsman” would start with the roof and finish with the walls !

Astrologically and psychologically, it’s exactly the same : you have to rely on your bases, your qualities, what you love and master, to move toward the evolution you must undertake (see my article to help you find your ikigai).

These innate bases are materialized by the elemental dominances (hence the importance of analyzing them) and by the analysis of various karmic factors in a more specific way : Sun, Black moon, south lunar node, Ascendant, and angles, etc. (see the incarnation triangle).

A specific word about the south node : I still often read and hear discourse about denying these energies, which would be “negative” because they hold you back or are too rigid…

This is really a totally counterproductive approach, it’s somewhat like saying “I won’t wear my old clothes and will walk around naked until the next fashion comes out”, you’re likely to have some problems ! 😉

A more measured approach is to keep wearing your clothes until you find garments that fit your new style and that you can embrace…

Step 3: Identify and Understand Your Main Blockages

This is the inverse counterpart of the previous step, a bit like an accounting balance sheet “credit / debit”, you have to establish each column, and it’s also very important to clearly define the challenges you have to go through, the steps to climb, the confrontations, the psychological blockages and complexes…

This step is based on the fact that you can only truly fight and overcome something you have fully identified !

How many times do we see psychic or relational patterns repeating endlessly in a person ?

Einstein said that true insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results each time… He added that human being is a “very routine animal”. Everything is set in humans to lead them to this…

Astrology holds an extraordinarily important point, which is that the mere study of one’s natal energies changes their mode of expression !
A psychological pattern that is observed can no longer reproduce itself unconsciously in a loop; it emerges into consciousness, and that changes everything !

Thus, one can move from a “passive / unconscious” stage to an “active / conscious” stage, which is obviously like night and day; it’s no longer about “enduring” but understanding and mastering, even managing to guide…

Jung was talking about nothing else when he spoke of the Individuation process but also emphasized the “painful” nature of the thing, especially when it operates at the “anarchic” level.

Astrologically, this can be expressed, for example, through complicated Aspects, Square, Opposition, again through karmic factors (Black moon, Lunar Nodes), some transpersonal factors, Retrogrades planets…
Here again, things are ranked according to the planets involved : luminaries, personal or social planets, Anima / Animus, etc.

Step 4: Put Things into the Perspective of Time

This is the other axis astrology obviously allows, the birth chart describes a “structure” but which is not “fixed”, it’s a 3-dimensional structure upon which the 4th temporal dimension applies describing evolution…

In other words, the birth chart is not only a plan showing the current state, but also an instruction manual, a recipe, which globally describes a cyclical accomplishment, in the rhythms of the universe !

There is a very fitting example often used by Dane Rudhyar, which is that of the seed.
The seed is nature’s means of immortality; it contains all the potential of one generation to pass to the next, and the human being is nothing else.

An apple seed will never produce an oak tree, but what is certain is that within this very structure of “seed” is already the tree !
What the seed needs is good soil, a good location, sun, water, and finally time, and this little bit of life can become a centuries-old tree several meters high provided it‘s given the necessary years…

At a certain level, astrology asks us to be gardeners; it asks us to plant our own seeds, care for them, watch over them, then give them time to grow.

It’s important to understand that each birth chart will have its own signature of evolution in the present, its own “barcode”, which will be described in a very individualized and specific way, even among people born a few hours apart.

And each natal aspect will certainly experience multiple stages of evolution during a lifetime, which are like “nodes”, opportunities that allow us to act retrospectively on our bases and make them change ! To help us somehow externalize our energies as consciously as possible…

Here are therefore 4 important steps for those who want to begin to deepen their birth chart…
I could have mentioned some others or gone much deeper into certain elements.

Let me know if you like this type of article; I will develop these steps further later… 😉

  1. Hello Mr Christophe GUILLAUME,
I really enjoy this kind of article. It’s very well-structured, profond, and creative. A true guide of life. Comparing astrology and accounting is ingenious! We discover their similarities at the same time.
    To be continued…
